Meet Carol Madia

Chef Weso

If you think Limpopo is not packed with greatness and skill, then you probably haven’t met Carol Madia Seakamela, fondly known as Chef Weso, from Botlokwa, Mokomene Village. A seasoned and well-experienced chef known for her food creativity, discipline, and passion. This is a chef who understands quality and standards.

Growing Up

Carol grew up in an environment of food creativity. She was raised by a grandmother who would constantly tell her, “Bogobe” (a Sepedi name for cooked maize meal, known as pap in South Africa) is not the only food you ought to eat. Her grandmother would take her grandkids out to taste new cuisines. From that time, Carol’s way of living and understanding was channeled into learning new cuisines and experimenting with different dishes.

Finding Purpose

Like many in South Africa, when the time came for her to choose a career path, she initially chose to study engineering instead of following her passion and gift. However, after a year, she felt within herself that she wasn’t aligned with her purpose and destiny. She then took a gap year, gathered the courage to chase her passion, and registered for hospitality studies. This proved to be a fruitful decision because, after completing her studies, she was offered a job to train aspiring entrepreneurs in remote villages of Limpopo with baking skills to help them generate income.
