THE SILENT TEARS OF A
Broken Man
The silent tears of a broken man are my expression of the feelings and emotions of men and how we suffer in silence. It speaks of the young boy who was quiet but broken, caring yet silently crying—loud without a voice escaping his lips, while tears rolled down his cheeks.
Society said, “Men don’t cry,” “Take it like a man,” “Don’t show your weakness,” and “Be strong.” However, he struggled with suicidal thoughts, grew up fatherless, endured emotional abuse, and found isolation to be his safe space. In the end, he became broken and withdrawn.
Daily, he continues to cry from deep within, afraid of society and the world. His silent tears express his pain—broken and needing help but scared to speak, knowing he will be told, “Like a sheep, men don’t cry; they bottle the pain inside.”
With time, he learned that tears are not a sign of weakness but of strength. Talking helps, no matter what people say. You are not alone in your pain. GBV is not only men perpetrating violence—men, too, are violated. You are human before you are a man, and the boy child matters.
Don’t die in silence. LET’S TALK.
